Special Directions

 Apply 2 coats of C-101, Blu-White Clear to wing tips and teeth.  Fire to shelf cone 06.  Remove from kiln and apply Bright Gold Luster to wing tips and Mother of Pearl Luster to teeth.  Fire to shelf cone 018.

Technique

1.      Apply 2 coats of Ivory Tusk to entire piece, no need to worry about teeth or wing tips.  For the first coat, thin with water to get into detail; use full strength color for second coat.  Antique entire piece with Nubian Brown.  Wipe back highlights with a soft cloth dampened with Solvent.  Spray.

2.      For the rocks, use Black TL making sure to get into all detail.  Wipe back highlights.  Tint some areas of rocks with Light Umber and Brick Red.  Heavily drybrush highlights with Light Gray being careful not to cover tints and detail.  Tip into White to further highlight.  If depth is lost, float Flat Black into crevices.

3.      Use 2 coats of Bay Blue for the dragon body.  Spray between coats and allow to dry thoroughly.  Drybrush belly and chin with Dark Blue evenly.  Tip into Bright Blue to add highlights then into White to further highlight.

4.      Drybrush remaining body Regal Purple to achieve an even purple hue, especially on spine and top of head.  Excluding top of head and spine, drybrush with Royal Plum.  Now tip into Deep Magenta to start adding highlights on wings, legs, neck and cheeks; with color still in brush tip into Royal Fuchsia to accent more.  Tip into White to further highlight wings.  Refer to photo for color placements.

5.      Basecoat eyes with White then add a wash of Ivory Tusk.  Paint pupil with Flat Black and highlight with White.  Paint toenails Flat Black.  Spray entire piece.

6.      Highlight spine with Renaissance Gold.  Apply Hi-Gloss Sealer to eyes and toenails

7.      With a cleaning tool, gently clean paint off wing tips and teeth.  Note: When cleaning teeth, leave some color between teeth for separation.
