General Directions:
Begin with properly cleaned and fired
06 bisque. Thin down White and apply over entire piece to get into all detail.
When dry, apply another coat of undiluted White. Allow to dry. Apply Hyacinth
Blue in small areas wiping back details until entire piece is covered. Dampen a
soft cloth with Solvent to wipe back further highlights. Spray with Porcelain
Mist to set TL. Reminder: In this technique, sometimes more than one
coat of translucent is necessary so between each coat, the color must be sprayed
to protect the first layer.
Technique
1.
Apply Coal Gray to base stones then wipe back highlights. Very lightly
drybrush stones with Forest Green to give the illusion of moss. Randomly
drybrush a few stones with Forest Green, Mink, Brick Red and Dark Gray Blue.
2.
From the top of the in-set edge pulling down, very lightly add shadow
drybrushing with Flat Black. Refer to photo for the effect. Add highlights
with Medium Gray pulling from the top edge down then lightly go over the
sidewalk. Tip into Eggshell to lightly highlight edge.
3.
Use Black TL for roof, stacks, first eave, doors, foundation stones, dock
and mooring posts. Wipe back highlights on dock and mooring posts. Spray.
Evenly drybrush stacks Medium Gray then tip into White to highlight. Paint
rivets Flat Black. Lightly highlight foundation stones with Medium Gray. Tip
into Light Gray to highlight eave.
4.
Apply 2 coats of Rich Walnut to siding, dock and mooring posts. Wipe
highlights between coats. Spray. For dock and mooring posts, lightly highlight
with Mink; tip into Eggshell if needed to further highlight. Evenly drybrush
rope on post with same brush tipped into Honey Toast to separate rope from post.
5.
Use Black Forest for the window frames, sign trim and second eave.
Spray. Highlight eaves, sign trim and window frames with Forest Green then tip
into Honey Toast to further highlight window frames. If extra highlight is
desired, tip into Eggshell to very lightly highlight.
6.
Paint crab sign with Flat Black. Drybrush doors, roof and crab with
Brick Red. Tip brush into Honey Toast to add highlights then into Eggshell to
further highlight. Paint anchor, round “port” windows and doorknobs with Flat
Black. Highlight knobs with Medium Gray.
7.
Drybrush siding with Mink then tip into Light Gray and Forest Green.
This brush mix should be very subtle and should be drybrushed very lightly over
siding. Highlight trim boards and various boards with Eggshell then further
highlight with White. If more highlights are desired, add a second coat.
8.
Evenly drybrush sign with Eggshell. Detail with Flat Black. With same
colors, paint all nail heads and rear “X” window frames. Spray.
9.
Drybrush frame of crab sign and anchor with Glorious Gold. Drybrush
“port” window details and center of “X” windows with Copper. Apply 2 coats
Hi-Gloss Sealer to crab sign, anchor, nail heads and “X” window frames.
