General Directions:
Begin with properly cleaned and fired
06 bisque. Thin down White and apply over entire piece to get into all detail.
When dry, apply another smooth coat of undiluted White. When dry, apply
Hyacinth Blue in small areas wiping back for highlights until entire piece is
covered. Dampen a soft cloth with Solvent to wipe back highlights for an
overall even look to antiquing. Spray with Porcelain Mist to set TL.
Technique
1.
Apply Black TL to the cobblestones, sidewalk and roof. Wipe back
highlights to a dark gray color with Solvent. Spray. Randomly drybrush a few
stones with Light Gray, Light Umber, Wedgewood Blue and Brick Red. Highlight
sidewalk and roof with Light Gray then further highlight with White including
some shingles more than others for variegated look.
2.
Use 1 even coat of Holiday Red for brick and sign base. Lightly and
randomly wipe back highlights; spray. Drybrush with Red avoiding the very edges
so it remains darker. When even center tone is achieved, tip into Brightest
Yellow to highlight. This should not be an even value across the brick but
rather random.
3.
For neon green areas (vertical details of front window trims, eaves, side
and rear window frames and center of each corner detail), apply Sunflower
evenly; spray. When dry, lightly yet evenly drybrush with Country Sage. This
should be light enough to still see some of the yellow underneath. Tip into
Brightest Yellow to add highlights then tip into White to further highlight.
4.
Apply 2-3 coats of Golden Toffee to cone, background of trim, detail on
gable ends, serving counters, doors and details of trim corners of center
windows. Remember to spray between coats and allow to dry thoroughly. Work
some Light Umber into a drybrush and brush out; with this color still in brush
tip into Lt Yellow Orange and evenly add highlights to all areas. Tip into
White to add further highlights.
5.
For the doors and gable ends, the details may be a bit lighter than
desired so tip back into Light Umber to tone details down. Paint the doorknobs
Flat Black.
6.
Apply 2 coats of White Cloud to remaining details including horizontal
window trims in front, remaining vertical trims, swirl detail of main trim and
ice cream on cone of sign. Spray; drybrush with White to even out value.
7.
Add dots of “lights” with Flat Black, Country Sage, Red and Brightest
Yellow. Paint sign lettering with White. Spray.
8.
Apply 2 flowing coats of Hi-Gloss Sealer to sign.
