General Directions:
Begin with properly cleaned and fired 04 bisque. Thin down White and apply over
entire piece to get into all detail. When dry, apply another smooth coat of
undiluted White. Allow to dry. Apply Hyacinth Blue in small areas wiping back
for highlights until entire piece is covered. Dampen a soft cloth with Solvent
to wipe back further highlights for an overall even look to antiquing. Spray
with Porcelain Mist to set.
Technique
1.
Apply Gold Jubilee Twinkle to all
areas except roof and chimneys. Wipe back highlights on cobblestones and
sidewalk to a dark gray color with Solvent. Spray.
2.
Randomly paint a few cobblestones
with Brick Red, Light Umber, Wedgewood Blue and Light Gray. Lightly highlight
sidewalk with Light Gray then tip into White to further highlight and add walk
path.
3.
Use Sunflower in windows not cut
out. Spray. Lightly highlight with Lt Yellow Orange.
4.
Apply 2 coats Forest Green to roof,
door, mermaid tail and corner stones. Spray between coats. Highlight with
Country Sage; tip into White to further highlight. Drybrush mermaid hair with
Brick Red; tip into Orange to highlight. Drybrush flesh with Light Taupe. For
the sun on front, drybrush with Orange then highlight with Brightest Yellow.
5.
Use Bay Blue for the wood trim
around doors, windows and between floors. Spray. For the trim around doors and
windows, drybrush with Royal Plum. Add highlights by tipping into Deep Magenta;
further highlight with White.
6.
For the “wave” wood trim, drybrush
with Teal. Add highlights with True Blue then further highlights with White.
At the corners, drybrush the skulls with Light Gray and highlight White. On
each side, detail cat and bird as desired.
7.
Drybrush the body of the building
with Light Umber; tip into Brightest Yellow to highlight then into White to
further highlight. Paint door hardware and window frames with Flat Black.
Lightly drybrush with Sculptured Bronze. Detail windows and door hardware with
Shimmering Silver.
8.
Heavily drybrush sign with Light
Taupe then tip into White to highlight. Drybrush sign trim with Country Sage on
the outer sides; add highlights by tipping into Brightest Yellow. On inner
part, drybrush with Royal Plum then highlight with Deep Magenta. Use Flat Black
to trim out lettering. Add highlights of Orange, True Blue and Deep Magenta.
9.
Apply 2 coats of Coal Gray to
chimneys. Wipe back highlights then spray. Drybrush with Light Gray then tip
into White to add highlights. Drybrush a few stones and flues with Light Umber.
10.
For the barrels, drybrush with
Mink. Highlight with Light Umber then tip into Lt Yellow Orange to further
highlight. Paint barrel rings with Flat Black. Drybrush with Sculptured
Bronze. Apply Hi-Gloss Sealer to barrel rings, window frames and door hardware.
